There Be Treasure In Those Woods

Had a great weekend! Friday night was quiet. I had a happy hour after work then spent the rest of the evening at home. We played with Skylar and Caleb, and watched a movie. Saturday was running errands and doing random chores around the house. We had a few friends over Saturday night for food and games. I made chicken stew with biscuits. I have to say that it was damn good! Evening turned out to be a lot of fun! Lots of backstabbing and name calling when we called Munchkin. But in the end, James prevailed as the ultimate little person. Bobby was doing good until he tried to take James and I down. I warned Bobby to stay out of it, but he had to be mean. So I slapped him down so hard, he never recovered. I think he learned his lesson :)

Sunday was also a blast. Chris introduced me to geocaching. I LOVE GEOCACHING!! In a nutshell, geocaching is a treasure hunt using GPS. A person will hide a small container somewhere/anywhere in the world. They then log onto the website and post their cache (hidden treasure). They will give some hints as to its location and the GPS coordinates. You then take the coordinates and clues and try to find the cache. Inside the cache is a log where you write your nick and date. Sometimes there are little trinkets that you can have, but you have to leave a trinket in its place.

It just amazed me that there is this whole game going around me and I never knew about it. Looking at the website, there are caches all over the world - US, Canada, Australia, Britain, and more. Luckily, there are hundreds in the DFW area to keep me entertained.

Chris and I went geocaching Sunday. After we found the first cache, I was hooked. The first cache was a tiny plastic container that was hidden in the removable base of a parking lot light. Nobody would ever find it except if they were looking for it or repairing the light. Another cache was in a tylenol bottle that had been painted to be camouflaged and hung in the interior of an evergreen. You had to search to find it. My favorite was a multi-cache we did. The coordinates led us to a bridge over a creek. We couldn’t find anything on the bridge. Finally, I decided to go down to the bank and look under the bridge. Sure enough, on the side of the bridge was a small set of numbers - another set of coordinates! We then had to move to those coordinates. They led us to the woods where we found an ammo box hidden in thick brush and trees. Absolutely, a great time!

Chris, thanks for introducing me to it :)

Games were fun on Saturday. Ian’s portrayal of the “going down” moment of the evening does not do it justice. I would have to say that it was the most brilliant play I’ve seen in a game in such a long time, if not in forever! (The fact that I got to keep my levels, and treasure may have influenced my awe about the play.)

The dinner was brilliant (hmmm… the english dinner guest may have rubbed off on me), and I have to complement Bobby on the brownies - extra tasty to boot.

    As for geocaching …

That sounds like fun! Did you buy a GPS?

I haven’t bought a GPS yet. Hoping to borrow one from a friend. If I really get hooked to geocaching, I’ll go out and buy my own.

I don’t think it was quite like you described. I may have been beaten down temporarily, but I sprang back to when Pit! ;-)

Yes, you did okay at Pit. But you never recovered during our game of Munchkin. Even James agress that it was a beautiful smack down And that is truly what matters!
