Imaginary Heroes
March 7th, 2005 by Ian
We went to see Imaginary Heroes tonight. Excellent film! The film revolves around a family whose “perfect” son has committed suicide. I say “perfect” because he was the child who won all the awards and had all the potential. You follow their lives for the year following the son’s death. Sigourney Weaver, as the mother of the family, is truly the standout of the cast. I’ve always loved her and this movie reminds me why.
I know two sentence summary of the film makes it sound like a depressing movie, but that isn’t right. It is very emotional, but it is also very funny. The writer/director (Dan Harris) was able to weave the two beautifully. There is one spot in the film (towards the end) where I was a little disappointed. I thought an overused plot twist was used. But that was not enough to tarnish the film for me.
I suggest you see it soon as I’m sure it won’t be in theaters long. And if you miss it, be sure to go rent it one evening.
