Movie Weekend

I had a movie filled weekend. I saw 5 movies this weekend. 3 I had never seen, and 2 I had. Here’s some quick reviews

Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy - I have to admit that the book never interested me enough to read it. And when I heard of the movie, I didn’t think it would interest me either. But once I saw the trailer, I was hooked and had to see it. It looked like it would be a really cool sci-fi comedy. Unfortunately, it turned out to be exactly what I had always suspected the book was - a mediocre attempt at sci-fi and comedy. It had a few high points (Marvin the robot being the main one), but overall it was a disappointment. For me, the main flaws were the zany characters (the president annoyed the hell out of me) and the pointless love story. Overall, I think it is a 2 out 5.

Monsoon Wedding - I’ve heard this movie mentioned often since it came out in 2001. Everyone I know who has saw it has always spoken highly of it. Now I know why. It is a story about an Indian family in Delhi coming together for a wedding. It is what I would term a family drama. But the fact that it is an Indian family puts a whole new twist on it. I have to admit that I am not as familiar with Indian culture as I should be. It was really interesting to see how different and similar their customs and family interactions are to ours. The acting was excellent, the story was intriguing, and the cinematography was perfect. I highly recommend this film to everyone. 4 out of 5.

Girls Will Be Girls - This movie is absolutely hilarious! I’ve seen it many times and it sill cracks me up. The movie is about 3 women - 1 aging star trying to reignite her career, 1 failed actress trying to find Dr. Perfect, and 1 new actress trying to start her career. And to put a twist on the whole concept, all 3 women are played by drag queens! Some of you may know Coco Peru from her appearance in the movie Trick (”It burns!”). This movie will have you rolling on the floor laughing. You really must see it. My favorite line from the movie is still:
Coco - “Have you ever had an abortion?”
Evie - “I’ve had more babies pulled from me than a burning orphanage”

It is so irreverent! 5 out of 5

Kill Bill Vol 1 - What can I say - everyone’s seen it. Great movie. I love all the fight scenes and kung-fu-movie-of-the-week dialogue. Plus all the cheesy gore just makes me laugh. Oh, and don’t forget Lucy Liu running across the board room table in her slippers to slice off the head of a guy :) 4 out of 5

Eating Out - This is the new gay flick that is supposed to be the salvation for gay-moviegoers living through a drought of bad gay flicks. I’m sorry to say that it does not live up to its publicity. Basically, boy meets girl, boy wants girl, boy pretends to be gay and date girl’s gay roommate to get close to girl, boy’s gay roommate wants to date girl’s gay roommate, everyone gets hurt, everyone’s happy. Oh, and a LONG phone sex scene in the middle of the movie. There were a few funny lines in the movie. And the 3 boys in the movie were quite hot. But that was hardly enough to make up for the poor dialogue, predictable/mundane script, and bad acting. The best I can say about it is that it makes for decent soft core porn. 1.5 out of 5 (the cute boys bumped it up half a point)

Firstly, it did more than bump up a point by a half *wink* (reference to Eating Out).

Secondly, THAT was Lucy Liu (reference to KB)?

Finally, two movies, two songs constantly revolving around my head.

We have to do it again, soon :-)

Oh, I think I’m going to loose my KB2 cherry this weekend :-)
