The Wedding
June 14th, 2006 by Ian
It’s official…….I’m a married man!! And I bet you can’t guess who the lucky man is
We got hitched on June 10th at a little after 10:30. It was a beautiful wedding, an amazing reception, and an unforgettable after-party! I highly recommend the Hemingway House for anyone thinking of doing a KW wedding. The package comes with a wedding planner (Linda) who was extremely helpful. She was willing to work with us to make the wedding exactly how we wanted. The location was beautiful. Bobby and I said our vows in front of a small arbor covered with ivy and in the middle of a beautiful, tropical garden. Afterwards was a champagne toast and thousands of photos.
After we were exhausted from smiling, the wedding moved to Square One - a great little restaurant on Duval with an upscale feel. By the time the grooms arrived, the party was in full swing with a drink in every hand. Mike (the owner) outdid himself in arranging the reception. We had the entire indoor portion of the restaurant (which included the bar) to oursevles. There was even a bartender on staff whom we kept very busy. The tables were arranged together in small groups and were already set with wine glasses, water goblets, and chargers. The cake was covered in purple orchids that flowed down the side. It was set in a small alcove with a spotlight directly over it. The whole reception was so much more than I expected. The service was impeccable, the staff so friendly, the food delicious, and the drinks perfect. I can’t rave about Square One enough! I am so thankful for how wonderful they made our day.
The after-party was put together by our mothers and was an unforgettable evening. I won’t go into details on the events, but lets just say that it got crazy………”I’m having a fucking blast” kind of crazy. Moments to remember: dancing with everyone to some great latin music, a neckalce twirl-off between Jonas and my mother, running down the street through the rain with alcohol in hand trying to find the gay pride parade, everyone jumping in the pool with their clothes on, and playing the “memory game” with a bottle of Arbor Mist. Certain songs from the “Queer As Folk” soundtrack will have a whole new meaning for me!
Our “honeymoon” since then has been wonderfully relaxing. Plenty of time by the pool, in the sun, at the bars, shopping, eating, laughing, and just being with friends. We are about halfway through it now.
We are waiting to get our wedding pics posted online. The photographer said they should be available tomorrow. Keep checking www.keywestphotocrew.com to see if they are up. To satisfy your curiosity until then, you can visit James’s Flickr page for some photos he uploaded.
Congrats!!
It looks like you had a great time.
